Creative Writing Classes for Kids
CLASS: Movie Magic Screenwriting Camp (Grades 4-7)
Join filmmaker and comedy writer Claire Ayoub (EMPIRE WAIST, THE GYNOKID) for a creative and collaborative 4 sessions learning how to turn those ideas in your imagination into a movie script. Learn the fundamentals of screenwriting, how to build a hero, character development, dialogue, and how to have fun along the way. All movie genres welcome!

CLASS: Writing Heroes & Villains: A Screenwriting Crash Course
A truncated version of Claire's multi-session screenwriting camp targeting the creation of three-dimensional heroes and villains. In this 90-minute session, we’ll talk about how to build a 3-dimensional hero with clear wants and fears, as well as how to create challenges for that hero to go against and grow by the end of the film — including how to build a most excellent villain. Attendees will leave with a sketched out version of their hero, villain, and world. Great for all ages, especially 4th grade and up.
CLASS: Behind the Scenes: Demystifying Filmmaking
In this 90-minute session, screenwriter and film director Claire Ayoub will walk audiences through all the departments and skills required to bring a film to life including: costuming, production design, props, screenwriting, directing, location scouting, music, editing, and even craft services (a cast and crew has to eat!). A great way to widen an audience’s understanding from films just being about big stars and directors, and shining light on all the talents and team members required to bring a film to life. This will be an informal conversation so please bring any and all questions! Best for families with students ages 8 and up.
CLASS: Try Anyway - Creative Strategy for Perfectionists
Perfectionism can keep the best creative ideas as just that — ideas. It can keep us from starting a new script, convinced someone else would write it better. Or holding onto a finished solo show script, convinced we're not worthy to perform it onstage.
Our inner critic may list every single way we'll fail. But it's up to us to try anyway.
We'll take a deep dive into assessing your creative process and developing practical tools to reframe the way you approach yourself, your work, and your community as you bring your projects to life.
Students are encouraged to bring one creative project to class to apply their learnings to in real-time.
Payment plans & financial aid are available.

CLAIRE'S RECENT PROJECTS
Empire Waist (Feature)

Writer and Director of EMPIRE WAIST, a heartfelt dramedy about teens learning to love their bodies through fashion design. Developed through 17 live readings and talkbacks across the country, the film was the #1 Comedy on The Black List and Finalist for the PAGE Awards. Produced with Claire's own Try Anyway Productions, Wayfarer Studios, P&G Studios, and American High, the film will be released worldwide in 2024 with Blue Fox Entertainment. The film won Best Empowerment Film and Best Social Impact Film at the 2024 Sedona International Film Festival, Best FutureWave Feature (Youth Jury Prize) at SIFF 2024, and Best Feature at the 2024 Coney Island Film Festival.
Empire Waist Confidence Curriculum

The Empire Waist Confidence Curriculum is a companion piece to the feature film that Claire, her creative partner Crystal Collins, and a team of education experts designed to support and educate tweens, teens, and adults on their own self-confidence journeys. Made in partnership with P&G and Gillette Venus, the free curriculum includes 7 videos and 15 written activities featuring stories from the film's actors and tools from vetted healthcare providers, all hosted by writer/director Claire Ayoub.
The GynoKid (Solo Show & Education Series)

The GynoKid is Claire Ayoub's award-winning solo show about growing up as the child of small-town gynecologists. (Yeah, just as bonkers as it sounds.) A love letter to her parents, the show is hilarious, cringeworthy, and empowering — encouraging audiences to learn everything they can about their bodies and health. Claire's run at FRIGID New York included a series of post-show talkbacks with NY-based healthcare providers on topics such as gender-affirming care, puberty, endometriosis, egg-freezing, menopause, and HPV.
Open Wide (TV Pilot)

OPEN WIDE is Claire's TV pilot version of The GynoKid. Inspired by the true story of Claire's mother taking over the abysmal health program at her children's middle school (to their absolute horror), the show encourages families to laugh and learn about their bodies—and doubles as a vetted health education curriculum. Finalist for the 2023 PAGE Awards and Yes, And Laughter Lab.
